Ford Enters the Hybrid Race with the Fusion

Ever since the Taurus took a nose dive a few years ago, Ford has been looking for a suitable replacement to challenge the Accord and Camry in the mid-sized car segment.Originally introduced in Ford’s 2006 line-up, the Fusion has new modications including the new Hybrid power plant. The 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.In comparison to competitors, the Ford Fusion Hybrid gets some of the best in-town gas mileage.Driving the Fusion Hybrid around town will net you over 40 miles per gallon which far outshines the Camry and even the fuel efficient civic hybrid. The electric engine can get the Ford moving and can continue to power the car up to a limit of 47 mile per hour before the gas engine kicks in.A bunch of Car Prublications have used this method to get greater fuel economy than the EPA estimates.

The Fusion can help teach the driver which style of driving gets the best fuel economy.Ford has made a smart feature built into the gauge cluster called the Smart Gauge. There are two displays on each side of the gauge cluster that show various hybrid info. The 1st display tells the power left in the battery packs and the remaining amount of fuel. The second gauge tells which mode the car in in; electric or hybrid, and it also shows the RPM’s.The 3rd monitor shows motor and batter power.  The fourth and final data screen shows power to the wheels and accessory power consumption. The info centers in the Fusion display MGP, fuel consumption past data, a driving log, and radiator temp.To inform the driver which driving style is the best for fuel economy, a real time MPG information gauge is available.

You can see the hybrid flow graph located in the navigation screen.  This display will track the 5 modes of the Fusion’s Hybrid Powertrain which are the; electric drive, hybrid drive, electric boost, idle charging, and regenerative breaking.

Seperating itself from the hybrid pack, the Fusion has seats made from reclaimed fabric.  After watching Toyota and Honda sell millions of hybrid vehicles; Ford has finally came out with a fuel efficient car that will appeal to the masses.
